Budget 2027

Food & Drink Report

What could the Budget mean for you, your family or your business?

The Budget has the potential to affect your finances in all sorts of ways, whether that’s the amount of tax you pay, your pension, your investments or the cost of running a business. While the headlines grab most of the attention, it’s often the finer details that have the biggest impact.

Ahead of Budget Day, our advisors are sharing their predictions and the measures they’ll be watching most closely. We’ll also be publishing a straightforward Budget summary to help individuals, families and businesses understand what the announcements could mean in practice.

What Are Our Advisors Expecting from Budget 2027?

Ahead of Budget Day, we asked members of the LHK Group team what measures they’ll be watching most closely and what changes they would like to see announced.

BUDGET 2027 | ADVISOR PREDICTION

Alan Fearon | Development Lead – Pensions & Employee Benefits

I think we could see changes to make entrepreneurship and investment more rewarding

Exit Tax: I would both like and expect to see alignment of Capital Gains Tax (CGT), Exit Tax and Deposit Interest Retention Tax (DIRT): The wish is for Exit Tax to continue its journey down from 38% to align with CGT and DIRT, which currently sit at 33%.

Capital Gains Tax (CGT): There’s a lot of talk about making Ireland more attractive and advantageous for entrepreneurs. With CGT at 33%, which is high by European standards, I think we could see changes to make entrepreneurship and investment more rewarding.

Inheritance Tax: The Group A threshold was at €542,444 in 2009 and currently stands at €400,000. Given today’s property prices, I’d welcome increases to both the Group A and Group B thresholds.

Pensions (my wish list item): I don’t expect this to happen, but I think it should. While the Standard Fund Threshold (SFT) is due to rise from €2m in 2025 to €2.8m by 2029, the maximum tax-free lump sum remains capped at €500,000. I’d love to see that increase to €700,000 by 2029, bringing it back in line with 25% of the projected fund threshold.

BUDGET 2027 | ADVISOR PREDICTION

Turlough Gray QFA MSc | Financial Advisor

One of the areas I’ll be watching most closely on Budget Day is the proposed Personal Investment Account

One of the areas I’ll be watching most closely on Budget Day is the proposed Personal Investment Account and whether it can encourage more people to start investing. There has been a lot of discussion around the amount of money sitting in deposit accounts across Ireland, and this could be an opportunity to help savers put their money to work.

I’d also like to see changes that support both businesses and working families, including broader income tax bands and lower PRSI contributions. As costs continue to increase, measures that put more money back into people’s pockets would be very welcome.

Most importantly, any financial decisions made following the Budget should be based on individual circumstances and guided by professional advice.
